Our customer used the building contractor that was renovating their home to also construct the garden; with a swinging, timber bench, water feature, rill and corten steel planters. Fast forward to autumn 2026, and the garden looks like a completely difference space.
Ali took measurements so that he could work on the planting plan, whilst the building of the garden was in it’s final stages.
We came back a few weeks later, when the basis of the garden was finished – the building contractor will lay the paving once our planting has been done. We brought in 7 tonnes of top soil to fill the planters and new borders. The timber screen looks great too. One side is low so that the view across Bristol can be seen from their swinging bench.
Once the soil had been brought in through the house, we delivered the plants as per Ali’s planting plan, which included a variety of ferns, shade tolerant and sun loving plants. A grapevine will grow up the side of the wooden bench structure and on to the screening. Two Magnolia’s will be planted in the back planter, with an small Acer going in the front border.
Mulch is such an important aspect of planting, especially during our increasingly hot summers, they protect the soil, retaining moisture in it, as well as breaking down and improving the soil structure. This particular mulch is also filled with nutrients. The borders will be mulched once the planting is finished. It will be great to return to this garden to see the paving laid; I’m particularly keen to take in the finished space whilst having a quick go on the swinging chair!
