Jerry and Sam got to work removing the majority of the patio, which had a wall running around it. A new, timber framed deck will be added on top of this patio, so that it is the level of the patio doors. The grass had died off where the leylandii hedge had shaded it out, so this area running along the tree line is to be a new, timber raised border.

The hedge which has been heavily pruned was a bit of an eyesore, so we brought in feather edge pieces, for the boys to construct a new fence. You can see how much better this looks once the fence is in front of it.

The weather has really improved since all the rain at the start of this year. We’ve had lots of sunny days, with warm temperatures for March. The remaining patio base was covered in membrane, and then the construction of the timber frame for the new deck is begun.

Jerry and Sam work precisely, marking out cuts on the treated timber, as they fit the frame together. As the ends are cut, a wood end preserver is painted on to protect them.

Once the frame is installed, Jerry and Sam start adding the composite deck board to the top. These are durable and hard wearing, and come in a range of styles, shades and colours. Composite deck boards are a great option when replacing particular areas in a garden. They are rot resistant, as well as looking modern and stylish.

Once the deck boards were added, two timber raised beds were added to each side. Our customer decided at this point that she wanted the higher raised bed to be the same height as the other, so this change was made. We are always adaptable when working in someone’s garden. It is important that the final construction is just how our customer would like it.

Once this had been adjusted and the beds had been lined with dpc liner and filled with soil, composite topped steps were also constructed.

Once the new borders had been planted and mulched, the final part of this job was to paint the two raised beds by the decking with a dark wood paint. This gives cohesion with the decking and will also give extra durability to the wood.

The finished decking is a triumph, and looks super sleek and inviting. It’s a large space and is just perfect for entertaining. Once the outdoor furniture is added, and the plants start growing and developing, it will certainly be a lovely place to get together with friends and family.

Come back soon to see what our next project is…
