Sam, Ben and Joe did the majority of the work; scalping the lawn and moving the turf waste into a skip in the driveway, then bringing in base material for the new paving to sit on.
The paving was laid at a height, so as to be able to step down onto it from both the conservatory and back door. The paving sweeps around the back of the house and down the pathway to the driveway.
The boys cut a beautiful, curved edge which gives character to the paved area. A border is prepared to go along the fence line.
Matching grey, edging tiles were added and really finish it off nicely. The edging now joins up to the previous corner patio that we made last time we worked in this garden.
Three Cherry Laurel trees were planted, with a Hebe, Lavender, Hydrangea and Nandina interspersed between them. These will look good as they grow and fill out the border. They will also provide some much needed shade in this garden, during these hot summer’s which we now experience. A thick layer of good quality bark mulch tops off the new planting perfectly.
The next part of this garden which our customer wants us to work on will be the lawn. The whole area will be scalped with a new lawn installed, this may be next year.
The curve looks really nice as it sweeps around to the back door. Watering of the trees in particular needs to be every other day whilst this drought continues. When it drops down to 20 degrees, watering can go down to a good soak twice a week. Then when the winter rains come watering can stop, unless it is very dry for a prolonged period. Watering then recommences next spring for the following season.
