They began by creating a timber frame for a new decked area, which they based over the top of the old patio. The frame goes from the back door of the house, down some steps and onto the main deck.

Timber raised beds were added along the front edge of the decking, with matching composite deck running down the steps to the rest of the garden below. Ben helped to add the composite deck boards with Sam.

Another raised bed has been sunk into the back of the decking. This will look really effective when it is planted. The Jasmine officinalis and apple tree at the bottom of the garden were both removed to make way for some new trees.

The grass was scalped and a new concrete base was created for the shed. Stepping stones surrounded by gravel are being added at the bottom of the garden by the gate. We will lay a new lawn in a few weeks time, when our customer is back from holiday. New turf needs to be watered daily for three weeks whilst it’s roots establish.

Once the area is levelled you can really see the garden starting to take shape. This garden is overlooked by neighbouring houses from the far end. Our customer was keen to have some new trees planted to screen them off. We chose a tall a Chestnut Leaved Holly to cover an unsightly board on the side of a house, and a Portuguese Laurel. Another tree will be planted on the right hand side also.

Large sandstone slabs were laid, perfectly in level with the new shed base. Matching sandstone edging curves around the main body of the garden, which in turn creates a sweeping, new border.

Check back in with us soon to see this garden planted with shrubs and perennials, and a new lawn!
