Banked Lawn with Recycled Paving

For the first week of the New Year the Secret Garden team set to work on this back garden in Sea Mills, North West Bristol. After a mild Christmas the temperature dropped for our return to work, going down to 2 degrees.

However, we were lucky that it was dry for the first part of the week. The paving on the patio was a variety of different levels, which was unsightly and dangerous, so this needed rectifying.

To be cost effective we reused the existing paving which was in fine condition, and only brought in an 25 extra slabs. We stacked up the old slabs ready to use. The patio will be more functional and safe when the paving is completed.

Along with the paving we raised the level of the lawn so that it would be the same height as the patio, this involved bringing in over 8 tonnes of soil.

Whilst the team were working on the area closest to the house, an area was cleared by the back fence with a new timber raised bed constructed to run along it. We included two new lap panels to the fence where a couple needed replacing.

The raised bed was moved into place and the lawn area was turfed. We started and tried to finish pointing the paving but the rain lashed down, so that will be the last little thing to do on Monday. Come back next week to see what we’re up to!
