Woodwork in Garden Design

This week, Team Jerry and Sam have started work on a back garden within a large, new build estate in North Bristol. To access it, they have to go down a muddy lane, into an even muddier garden. The rain has not helped with the landscaping lately, but transforming this garden into a more functional, interesting and usable space will create a peaceful, haven for the family who live here.

As you can see, the garden became very muddy rather quickly, but the boys constructed the timber frame for a new, decked area in front of the patio doors. This will be topped with composite deck boards shortly. Composite decking is durable, with high resistance to rot, warping and fading. It is also splinter free and slip resistant, making it safer and more cost effective over time.

This old, decked area, by the gate at the end of the garden, will be ripped out soon to make way for a new patio.

As well as creating the framework for the decking, the boys also started constructing timber, raised beds out of soft wood sleepers. These will be lifted into place and filled with soil, when ready.

Most of the vegetation has been removed, apart from some large herbs that were growing; rosemary and sage. These are being kept, and will be added when the rest of the planting is done at the end of this project.

Sam sands down the sleeper beds. These will be added in front of each fence and next to the new decking. We are really looking forward to seeing the deck boards being laid. Using different materials within a garden design that compliment each other can give your garden the wow! factor. Check back in with us next week to see what else is happening in this garden.
