Following on with their work, the boys laid some dark, charcoal pavers for the walkway outside of the front door, with Victorian star pavers on the doorstep. These were dug out from the garden and reused for this element. They look really effective, and it’s always good to use current materials rather than waste them.

If you’ve seen our previous post about this (click here if you haven’t), it’s great to see this garden coming together – the red brick, retaining wall now has a patio on top with matching steps following down to the sunken part of the design. The timber handrail on the steps matches the balustrade and pergola on the patio.

Once a good deal of the work had been done to the upper section of the garden, George could begin to work on the second half of the stone wall. All of the red bricks running along the top were removed, with the rest of the stones cleaned up and repointed. The same stone is used as the replacement so that the whole wall will be cohesive.

Once the pathway was included, posts were added to the perimeter edge for the installation of a timber screen fence.

Dan and Ben started the screening in the upper patio area, around the corner of the building on a sunny December day. The screening along the front edge of the property was constructed during Storm Bram, as the winds grew strong and the rain poured down. We managed to get the first half of the screening done before the main storm hit that night.

The coping stones that have been added to the top of the stone wall, really tie in with the newly restored wall. A lot of concrete and soil have been removed from this job. With all of it being carried down very steep steps.

George has been hard at work on this stone wall for a couple of months, and is stays focused on it whilst everyone else tackles other elements of the project.

As per the design brief, the screening slats have been added with a widened spacing the higher up they go for aesthetic appeal. This new screening gives a modern look and will offer this family privacy, security, and a space for plants to grow up. It really does look fantastic above the restored section of wall.
