Native Larch Decking

Last week we smashed out this old, rotten decking that came off the back door and had wooden steps down to the garden. As there was no back access to the garden everything had to go through the house. So, we strategically removed the decking until the point where we had to use a ladder to get waste out and materials in.

A lot of the wood was so rotten that we could rip it out by hand. It was definitely time to be replaced as it was in a fairly dangerous condition.

Once we had removed everything and had cleared the area we brought in Larch from our supplier in Lostwithiel, Cornwall. Larch is a native timber and is very durable. It doesn’t need to be treated as it is naturally resistant to rot and decay. It is stable with minimal movement and is impervious to most diseases.

Once the frame was built we brought in galvanised roofing sheets from Matthew’s Roofing in Warmley, to use underneath the decking, to make the store room space below it water tight.

Once the deck was on, the boys began working on the store room below, the balustrade and the steps. We have been very lucky with the weather, it’s been very dry for the last couple of weeks and the sun has been shining on and off.

The larch looks so good in the sunlight, the new store doors look great and the steps are coming along. Check back in with us next time to see this project completed.
