We set to work digging out the lilies and thoroughly weeded the space. Low maintenance shrubs were laid out into position. The ground will be mulched with composted or landscaping bark at the end of the job.
We put in a variety of Pittosporum, a row at the front to create a light, airy hedge and smaller varieties such as Tom Thumb within the border design. Trachelospermum jasminoides ‘Majus Japonicum’ was planted next to the wall. This is a fast growing evergreen climber with scented white flowers in the spring. In time it will cover this wall. We also included a Sarcococca hookeriana var. humilis – Dwarf Sweet Christmas Box, another evergreen that likes the shade and has scented white flowers in the winter.
Lavender ‘Hidcote’ was laid out along both sides of the pathway, this will smell lovely as the family who live here walk up to their front door. All of these plants will be fairly low maintenance and the mulch will suppress weeds and retain moisture. A win win situation for the tenants!
