Ripping Out Decking, an Old Pathway and Garage for a New Garden Design

This week, we’ve started landscaping our garden design for this back garden, in the Redland area of Bristol. The main priorities for this garden transformation are to create a new decked area, a curving pathway to meander through the space, and to remove the old garage and large conifer at the bottom of the garden.

Our team began by ripping out the old concrete pathway, and old timber decking that was starting to rot. We removed the wooden steps and deck boards with a breaker bar, and then unscrewed the timbers beneath it.

The pathway came up pretty easily. We are keeping the border on the left hand side, which will be planted at the end. This will run alongside a new curving path. The garage is not used, and the ivy which is growing over it, which is rather lovely, but is starting to encroach on the rest of the space, needs to be removed. There is also asbestos within the garage structure that needs to go.

Flo enjoyed smashing up the pathway and ripping out the decking. When the conifer is removed, the tree surgeon team will also remove this tree stump by the path with a grinder.

Down at the bottom of the garden, Sam got to work dismantling one section of the red, brick wall. Once this space is opened up it will be easier for waste removal during the first section of this project. Once the conifer is taken down, we will then be able to work on the lower section of this garden, where there will be a new shed and patio area.

Make sure to check our blog next week, to see how this garden is developing, once the tree has come down, and the structural work begins.
