Upon arrival into the garden, it looked like a standard, terraced garden for this area of Bristol, with a lawn and borders, and an old pathway to the back door with Victorian, Staffordshire blue, diamond pavers. When the extension of the house had been created it left the back door at a high level to the pathway, this meant that all the waste going out had to be lifted out through the back door and through the house.

The boys began by digging out the borders to make way for the new timber, raised beds. With all the materials being carried in, through the house.

The area was levelled, and the raised beds were constructed using soft wood sleepers. Some Sedum stonecrop that had been dug up from the garden were kept and planted as soon as the beds were ready.

MOT Type 1 sub base was brought in, raked out and compacted down with a wacker, to create the base for the new porcelain patio.

Once this base started to go down, we could begin to see the new garden design taking shape. A new lawn will also be included after the patio.

Using reclaimed, red bricks the boys constructed some new steps, coming down from the old Victorian pathway, into the garden. Our customer is yet to decide what they will be topped with. This will follow next week.

Once these structural elements were in, the boys put up new trellis around the garden. The old, red brick wall is a nice feature below them, but as they were quite low, these were added for privacy and security.

These beautiful, porcelain slabs started to be laid. They really brighten up this back garden, and will give a really sleek look once finished. Will took care, perfectly laying them, using a porcelain primer on the backs of the slabs to help adhere them.

You can see how this space has drastically changed from the original appearance of this garden. Come back next week to see this project completed.
