The team began the job by taking down the shed, and fence that had been put up to hide it. The old patio was smashed to pieces; with some of it being kept to use as base for the new seating area.
We recycled the timber from the shed at our local commercial waste centre. Some of the rubble from the patio area will be taken away from the front garden in due course with a grab. We are also creating a driveway at the front of the house after we have finished the back garden, so some of the rubble will be used there too.
The next step was to prepare the ground, level it ready for paving, as well as removing any vegetation that wasn’t wanted. Our customer did consider keeping this tree, but eventually it was decided that it should go to the big compost in the sky. It was very close to the fence and wasn’t in the best condition.
Sam took out the tree with ease. It was also recycled with other green waste at our local waste centre.
Posts for the pergola were installed, and the base was prepared and wacked down. Wooden pegs were also tapped in to help with creating the level of the patio.
We brought in a couple of tonnes of loose sand and stonedust to create the concrete to lay the paving on. All on the shiny new bed of our truck.
The grey limestone paving compliments the fence and brickwork surrounding the end of the garden. A flower border will be constructed in front of the pergola end of the patio.
We are looking forward to seeing the top of the pergola being constructed and the flower border, which will really give this new seating area structure, form and interest. Check back in with us soon to see the finished garden design.
