Team Glenn set to work scalping the two small lawn areas, along with the removal of the old slab stepping stones. As with many Bristol homes, everything had to come through the house in tubs on shoulders, and out the front door.
The new porcelain slabs were matched against the current slabs in the lowest area of the garden by the patio doors.
Once the area was fully prepared, a wacker plate was brought in to compact the ground, prior to laying the stepping stones and artificial grass.
This firm base is permeable to rain water but sturdy when walking over the artificial turf.
We carried in lots of beautiful, but heavy porcelain slabs which will blend in well with the exterior stone work.
It was really good to see the new paving go down after a lot of work getting materials through the house. We prefer not to use artificial grass, but sometimes it can be really useful in small spaces, or where it is difficult to use a mower.
We also replaced some of the slabs on the lowest steps. These look really good against the red stone of the wall with the lower patio.
