Team Jerry began by removing all the vegetation. There was a lot of heavy – and very prickly – pyracantha and berberis planted around the perimeter of the garden. These are of course great plants to add into your garden to deter potential thieves, but they had become very dense and were taking up a lot of the space.

The family who live here, have been here for many years and were keen to have a big change for their garden. Taking a space back to basics is always inspiring, as you start to imagine how it will look going forward.

The rotting decking outside of the patio doors were removed, to make way for a new decked structure. All materials that we remove from gardens are taken to a recycling centre, where they are recycled into other things, such as chipboard, compost etc.

The new trellis that has been installed along the back garden wall, looks really smart, and compliments the natural, stone wall.

Two decked areas are being constructed in this garden. One in the above corner by the trellis, and a second outside the back of the house. A timber frame was created for both decked areas – one using traditional, softwood for the section with steps by the back of the house, and the main decked area having a composite decked top.

Pieces were cut to size with the chop saw, and Flo was happy to help Jerry out with the woodwork part of the design.

Whilst the decking was being constructed, the ground was also being prepared for laying a new patio, with new borders. A lawn will be the last thing to go down.

All of the rubble and soil waste from the back garden will shortly be moved into the front. The front garden is fairly small, so we are limited on space in regards to storing and moving materials. But once that area is clear all of this waste will be picked up by a grab from the front garden. Once we have finished landscaping the back garden, we will then move into the front to create a new driveway.

The slabs being laid already give us a glimpse into how smart this garden will look upon completion.

It’s great to see the main elements of this garden design taking shape. Check back in with us soon as we are progressing quite rapidly with this project, and we are looking forward to seeing the finished piece.
