The boys began by repairing a section of fence and adding a whole new back fence. The back garden gate opens out onto a beautiful churchyard with tiny stream. You almost don’t feel like you are in the middle of a city.
Whilst we were taking away the green waste and old pieces of fence, the boys took up the old patio, keeping the pieces for later in the project. They added timber sleeper edging to create new border areas, as well as at the bottom of the fence near to the patio doors. This will make this area look a lot cleaner when the new limestone patio is laid.
Once the big apple tree had been removed and the stump ground, the boys began cutting out the new pathway and area for the top patio by the new fence. It’s really good to see some features being added to this space to give it some structural interest.
You can see how the new timber edging around the tree on the right hand side gives definition. Along with the pathway, the eye now moves from feature to feature, rather than looking at a big expanse of nothingness. This is much more visually appealing.
George scalped and cut out a quarter circle shaped section for a new border, next to the timber sleeper. Different materials juxtaposed against each other make the design more interesting. Come back next time to see how this job is going. There’s lots more to do and we’re very excited about it!
