Duchy Timber

We’ve been buying sustainably forested native timber from Duchy Timber for a number of years. We particularly love using native Larch timber in our work because it grows widespread across the UK and is naturally waterproof, tough and durable. This makes it perfect for using in decking, cladding, panels, and a variety of heavy carpentry.

Duchy Timber are based in Lostwithiel, Cornwall and have been operating their saw mill since 1958 as part of the Duchy of Cornwall Estate. In recent years, as a division of Premier Forest Products, it has grown to become a state of the art site. Utilising the recent onsite investment in solar power, their computer-controlled sawmill, timber drying kilns, a pressure treatment plant and extensive machining facilities are all powered by renewable energy.

Duchy Timber supplies direct to local tradesmen, large construction companies and domestic customers, as well as other independent timber suppliers across the South West and Southern United Kingdom.

As well as being generally sourced from local, responsibly and sustainably managed woodland, their timber is milled, kiln-dried, pressure treated, machined and manufactured on one site – this keeps their log miles to a minimum. Even their drying kilns are powered by wood-chip waste from their mill. We are always so impressed with the service that Duchy Timber offer.

It’s such a good feeling to use wood in our customer’s gardens that hasn’t been flown to us from the other side of the world, causing further environmental issues. Sustainability is so important when considering choosing timber.
