Flo and I laid the finishing touches to this driveway design, by laying low grow meadow turf. Meadow turf is a fantastic product, and instantly looks amazing. Flowers start popping up within a day or two, due to the mature plants that are growing and are woven through the turf. It is grown on a soil-less substrate, which means that it is light weight. There are different types of meadow turf to choose from, depending on what height and style of meadow you want to create, and what will fit your space.

In this small area, the low grow meadow turf, which grows to a maximum of 45-50cm height is perfect. It has a large variety of wildflower plants in it, making it beneficial to wildlife and creating a habitat within your garden.

We had two different types of meadow turf delivered to one of our other landscaping sites in the city, where we divided them up and took the pieces to our driveway job. We started laying them out, a bit like a puzzle, fitting them in, and using the cleanest edges against the edges of the paving.

As the meadow turf goes down, it looks really good next to the new timber bin store and timber screening.

Watering of newly laid meadow turf is the same as standard turf – it needs to be watered daily for 3 weeks, and longer if it is very dry weather. It needs to be kept moist whilst it is establishing, taking care that the edges of the turf do not dry out.

Meadow turf can either be cut like a standard lawn, each month during the growing season, or it can be cut annually during the middle of September. Taking care to rake up all the cuttings and thatch, as you don’t want nutrients going back into the soil.

After so many weeks of our team working hard on this double driveway, it is really good to see it finished, and to see both neighbouring families happy with the end result.
