Although our customer cordons off their garden during some of the year to their dogs, the closest part of the lawn and furthest away parts were the worst affected. We started by scalping the turf off the top of the soil, and shifted it out through the side passageway of the house.
Next, Will dug a trench to prepare the ground for a new cobbled edge of Raj setts. We are taking on the garden maintenance in this garden going forward, so this edging will stop grass growing into the borders, and will give good definition to the plants surrounding the lawn.
Firstly, Will laid some 300x300mm raj slabs to extend the small patio underneath the bay tree. The edging will run from both sides of this giving a cleaner look to the border.
Will and Flo laid ballast in the bottom of the trench and compacted it down in preparation to start laying the cobbles.
Once the edging had been laid and the gaps pointed, Flo tidied up both sides of the edging when the concrete had set.
We brought in rolls of good quality turf, which we laid parallel to the house. The soil was prepared by raking it free of stones, and smoothing out dips or raised areas.
Whilst Flo was laying this main area of lawn, I scalped the back section to lay some turf where the dogs had gouged out grooves in it.
We cut a clean edge so that the new turf adjoins the rest of the lawn well. Although it looks muddy and a bit battered, the rest of the lawn will bounce back well, along with the new grass. We are looking forward to seeing this look fantastic when we return for garden maintenance in 2025.
