The boys got to work digging and shifting soil. They constructed a long timber raised bed border, the full length of the upper garden area. This is going to be planted with fast growing bamboo to hide the wall and fence behind.
Soil was either banked up into the new borders or removed, so that they could start work on the new patio area in the centre of the space.
The yellow limestone paving is a cost effective material and really lightens up this space. The patio works well within the large new borders that surround it. These will be planted with a variety of small, evergreen shrubs, and a couple of climber on the far side by the railings.
For this Air BnB project we ordered in flat pack planters as a cost effective solution, to create a focal point and to give definition to the yard area by the house entrance. Flo stepped in to build them, fill with soil and plant them.
We brought in a Lavender for the planters, which is a fantastic small evergreen plant, that requires very little maintenance or watering. We will intersperse these with grasses.
We also brought in a variety of small shrubs for the large borders in the upper part of the garden. The planters look fantastic designating the space for pedestrians to walk to the house door and for cars to park.
One of the most important things you can do in a garden is to apply mulch. So, we will be bringing in a truck load to layer onto the planters and main borders next.
The upper garden is going to look great once the bamboo have been planted along the wall, and all the borders have been mulched. Sitting up here of an evening with the fire pit will be vibes.
Check back in with us soon to see this garden completed…
