Since our last post about this garden, the pond has now been lined and filled, and is ready for marginal and pond plants to be added shortly. The new patio that sweeps around the house is in the final stages, with the steps complete, and edges faced with paving.

The raised vegetable beds, made from native larch, look fantastic during construction. We are adding in small matching larch beds on either side of the patio next to the house, to give cohesion to the design of the garden.

Whilst the raised beds were being constructed, we also included a mosaic design next to the pond. It’s a lovely feature, and adds visual appeal to the space. We raked out loose rubble and concrete, and started bringing in soil for the main body of the garden and the new raised beds.

Next, came the wildflower meadow turf. Once laid around the pond, it looks attractive instantly, and is beneficial to wildlife, creating a habitat where insects can thrive.

Soft wood timber frame raised beds were also constructed next to the back garden fence. When the plants were planted the meadow turf was laid around the pond. It looks really beautiful with the mirror of the water.

We ensured that we dug over the ground in preparation for turfing. We will be using RTF turf which is hard wearing, and is durable in sunny and shady spaces. Flo took special care with the mosaic, so that it is perfect when it comes to adding the pointing compound in the gaps.

The fresh, green turf being laid really makes the garden come alive. The team did a great job on this, cutting around the stepping stones, tamping it down, during a fairly warm afternoon. It is essential to water meadow turf and standard turf well for three weeks, which it establishes. Take care to water the edges well, to ensure that they don’t dry out.

The final touches will be to finish adding top soil to the vegetable beds and to mulch the newly planted border. Come back very soon to see the completed photos of this project…
