Their garden is a lovely, little space with a decent quality, wooden compost store and planted borders. But the end of the garden needed some tender loving care. There had previously been a shed on this base, which has recently been removed, as this was in the only space where the last of the evening sun hits the garden.

With a few of us working on this project, we removed the old concrete blocks and rubble, carrying it out to load onto the truck directly. The remaining soil and smaller rubble we took out in wheelbarrows and added to the truck.

Bricks were removed from the corner of the garden, as was a small amount of cleared green waste.

Once the main debris had been cleared, Will worked out where the patio would lie, using a chalk spray to mark it out. We then scalped a small section of lawn and raked over the soil so that the level would be correct for laying.

Whilst we had been removing the waste from the garden, on our inbound trip we carried in yellow limestone slabs and other materials.

We wheelbarrowed in a tonne and a half of ballast to act as the base, prior to laying the slabs. This was dumped into piles and then raked out evenly.

Some of the bricks were kept from the waste to use as the wall along the front edge of the patio, due to the level of the ground at either end of the paving. The paving was then pointed with ready made jointing compound.

The last thing for this project was to have a good tidy up and then to add some Somerset Grey limestone gravel along the top edge of the patio where it joined the wall.

With temperatures reaching 32 degrees by the end of this week, we’re sure that this new patio will be getting some use this weekend. A new table and chairs, with climbers and plants growing in pots will be the perfect, final addition. If you are interested in a new patio, contact us to discuss your requirements.
