When we arrived back at this garden, we came ready to plant lots of bulbs. Our customer had bought a variety of crocus’, snowdrops, tulips and alliums. These will give colour and interest from late winter into the summer.
We visited this garden a month or so ago and did a weeding session, and booked in to mulch it. The mulch will help suppress the weeds (and makes it easier to pull any out that are growing in the mulch, rather than the soil), retains moisture in the soil, and helps give the soil more structure. Mulch is a great all round addition to any garden, and you really shouldn’t be without it.
We craned off a few dumpy bags of good quality bark mulch, and proceeded to wheel it through to the back garden. Not only does it provide a good looking top dressing, it also smells nice, and is great for wildlife. Birds like to pick through it and to use it for nest building.
When we landscaped this garden we laid low grow meadow turf, which will provide a variety of wildflowers and grasses during the growing season. Walking over it with the barrows of turf released the delicious aroma of the chamomile.
The meadow turf is growing well between the stepping stones, which cross the garden to a second patio. The timber screen provides a focus for the eye, and also provides some privacy and gives plants somewhere to climb.
We mulched from the side pathway, where we had planted ferns and pachysandra, and along into the large main borders. The mulch gives good cohesion to the garden beds as you walk through.
